A TROPHY TROUT IN YOUR HANDS INSTEAD OF YOUR DREAMS!
While there is no shortage of public access to streams and rivers in the Lake Toxaway area, Catatoga’s private two mile-stretch of Indian Creek offers exceptional fly fishing for trout throughout the year. To make a great fishery even better, Catatoga has recently designated one mile of Indian Creek above Lake Catatoga as a “Trophy Brook Trout” fishery. In addition to stocking large brookies up to three pounds to supplement the native trout in these waters, streambed management efforts are now underway to protect existing habitat and enhance spawning areas for trout. Indian Creek offers both great pocket water fishing in heavily wooded stretches with native rhododendron along the banks as well as wonderful stretches of alternating pools and deep runs through open meadows above the lake.
Best of all, Catatoga’s Fishing Guide and Riverkeeper Alex Bell is available for both fly fishing lessons and guide services. As a long-time fly fisherman and one of the developers of the Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail, Alex is no stranger to most streams in the area. Alex's guide services accomodate the serious angler as well as the beginner, so whether you have fished for years or never had a fly rod in your hand, get in touch and plan a trip. Anglers should not overlook Catatoga Lake, itself an excellent fishery for trout, bass and bream. The boathouse area offers open and easy access for fishermen of all ages and especially children, while Catatoga’s lakeside trail provides many additional areas from which to fish on both sides of the lake.
