Lake Toxaway takes its name from the lake, constructed on the Toxaway River around the turn of the twentieth century. With 14 miles of shoreline, it was the largest manmade lake of any consequence in the region. Creation of the lake was a catalyst in the creation of Lake Toxaway, North Carolina.
